“Hot July brings cooling showers,
Apricots and gillyflowers.”
– Sara Coleridge, Pretty Lessons in Verse

A trip to the ocean was just what we needed, this summer needed some fun in the sun. My sister and her family went with us to Sea Rim State Park. We all had a blast walking the boardwalk, looking at crabs (trying to catch some), playing in the water, building sandcastles, and having a picnic at the nearby Sabine Pass Battleground.

No fireworks this year but we did decorate and dress up for some pics! Even the dogs joined in!

Most of our days are spent trying to stay cool in the pool. It is also an easy exercise routine!

Our old Ford truck finally died and we bought a Used Chevy “Texas Edition” Silverado. I like it and I am glad we have something we can trust to get us around.

A sad end to a story, the Exxon store on the corner (to the left) is no more. The highway coming through has cleared as far as an eye can see both ways from our little caution light in town. The saddest part is I used to work at that Exxon 20 years ago and my husband owned the wood shop on the opposite corner from where I worked. After meeting him one day at my store when he came to by a soda I was smitten and would look out the Exxon window towards his woodshop and watch him work s hard on all his carpentry projects when I had nothing to do in the store. I learned so much about him by just watching him be who he was. My kids tell him I was his stalker but he is ok with that! I was in love before our first date because by just watching how diligently he worked, how kind he was to others, how he always had a smile on his face when he came into my store I knew he was a good man and I knew I wanted a good man. I pined for him for three weeks because I was too shy to ever just go tell him I liked him. So one day after I whined about wishing he would ask me out, a co-worker of mine finally went over and told him he needed to take that girl on a date. I was horrified with embarrassment. Sure enough at 5:00PM when he got off work he drove over to my store and asked me if I was off that weekend and 20 years later the rest is history! The song “The Long Way” has a verse that says “I’d love to see just where your daddy met your momma” and now my kids can only talk about it, never able to show anyone the place. It makes me sad but the shops may be gone but our love remains stronger than ever! ❤
Peace, love, joy, and blessings,
Becky
