Torah Portion – Balak – “Balak “

Balak | בלק | “Balak “

Becky’s Thought’s on this week’s Torah Portion…

We read about Balaam and the talking donkey this week. We all tend to have our moments. Not only do we question what the Creator has spoken and often want to get a “second opinion” on the matter we are also  impatient and get angry over things not going our way. When you pray and hear from above on a matter, why entertain thoughts contrary to that. In my opinion, Balaam wanted to go with the princes so he could get the reward they offered for him cursing the Israelites. When Yahweh said “NO!” the first time, that should have been enough. Balaam should not have had the prices stay with him the second time to “know what more the Lord will say to” him. Yah was angry with Balaam because he went with them to see Balak. Yah sent an angel to stand in his path. The donkey saw the angel and refused to go the way of Balaam. Has there been a time you may have been hindered along your way because maybe you did not listen to Abba when He said, “No”? When something seems to be obstructing your path, think back to this story and pray that if you are contrary to the Father’s will, that He open your eyes. Remember the story of Balaam…
Numbers 22:32-33
“Why have you struck your donkey these three times? (why do you keep forcing the matter)
Behold, I have come out to oppose you because your way is perverse before me. (You are not doing what I said to do)
The donkey saw me and turned aside before me these three times.
(This hindrance is for your own good)
If she had not turned aside from me, surely just now I would have killed you and let her live.”
(The hindrance is what is saving you!)

Group Discussion:
Talk about times you have felt like Yahweh has directed your path through obstacles.
