Scripture Scavenger Hunt Hike

February 26, 2011

We have been trying to find things to do on the Sabbath that is helpful to keep our life centered around things that give glory to GOD and also for it to be a delight. I believe that we are to keep the Friday to Saturday Sabbath and that if we can do what it says in the following scripture then we will receive the blessing that the Lord promised in that scripture “for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”

Isa 58:13-14  If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

We can not think of anything more delightful than hiking and being out in the awesome creation that GOD made for us to enjoy and take care of. We had invited my mom and sister and her kids to come with us on our hike so I wanted to look for something that would help keep it a little more Bible based and maybe help get the kids focused on seeing GOD in nature as we do.

I found on the internet a sight that suggested to have a Scripture Scavenger Hunt. I took a few minutes to adapt it with scriptures of common things we could find on a hike and we were ready.

We all load up into the car and head out to Boykin Springs Lake.

Ratcliff Tall Pines Trail

February 22, 2011

Tall Pines Trail at Ratcliff is said to be only a mile and half, I swear it is the longest mile and a half I have ever walked. It may have more to do with the fact that I was sore from working on the flower bed the day before, squatting down to plant cactus is something my muscles are not used to.IMG_1421

As we headed out Adam watched the signs closely making sure we did not venture off on the 4C hiking trail that is 20 miles long. CONTINUE READING…

Ellen Trout Zoo… Trail?

February 18, 2011

I had heard there was a nature trial around the Ellen Trout Zoo lake.IMG_1393I vaguely remembered seeing a trail off in the woods the last time we rode the little train at the zoo, so we set out to see if there was a trail.  CONTINUE READING…

C.S.I. Education

February 17, 2011

Austin returning from checking our mail asks, “Mom is there a reason that our mail box has a hole blown in it?”  Apparently someone shot a hole in our mail box. So what can we do? We can use it for a C.S.I. education. I encourage my kiddos to “work the scene.”

A Time to Plant

February 15, 2011

Adam wanted to have a garden of his own. I told him, “Well, when Daddy starts planting in a couple weeks you can have your own garden spot but until then you can help me if you like. I am going to plant herbs.” “What is herbs?” Adam questions. “Spices!” I said. He thought that would be pretty neat to grow our own spices. I explain to him that we can grow them and dry them and store them ourselves. 100_9763

I bought one of the starter kits so it would be easier for Adam to help. We set up our stuff on the picnic table outside. CONTINUE READING…
