Waterfall Rock

I had been looking back over some of my older blogs lately and came across “Go Fly a Kite” from a few years back… This totally inspired me to want to get a kite and get out there in these nice March winds! Of course the day I plan to go the winds were high above the trees and I knew it would be hard to get the kites up high enough so I opted just to go on a hike. I had to get out of this house and out in a bit before I totally go mad!

Boykin Springs is our “go to” park for hiking when we don’t have all day to drive then hike. We generally hike the lake trail (which doesn’t even show up on the map) but I wanted a bit of a change so we headed down the Sawmill Hiking Trail. The trail used to go all the way to Bouton Lake but private land now blocks the way. I suppose that doesn’t matter today we wont be going that far.

As we went through the park past where we used to rope swing into the water, we saw the limb in now broken and so swinging into the springs is a thing of the past. We walked on by where the water crosses over the road. I had to take off my shoes and socks at this point and cross so that I wouldn’t get my shoes wet! Hubby picked on me for it but I don’t care, the cool water flowing over my feet was refreshing!

Our first hike of spring is never easy, I am so out of shape by the time winter is over that everything hurts! Ankles, knees, & hips were all screaming for a massage and we hadn’t even walked a half mile yet!
I just suck it up and waddle onward with my wonderful kids offering to help me over “wash outs” and  fallen trees that still liter the trail. We take advantage of some of those fallen trees to rest a bit.

Some of us are more creative than others at HOW they sit on the fallen trees! But it is good to know that  her imagination still allows her to find a “horse” to ride among the broken forest. Hubby reminds me, “We have to walk back too,” but I had in mind where I was headed, I wanted to see the waterfall rock!

We meander along the trail and right around a mile into the trail we come to the waterfall rock!

My Lil’ Girl begs to take off her shoes to play in the water and Lil Bro is right behind her! Big Bro wanders around a bit along the rocks but soon climbs a tree to get a better view of the area.

Hubby & I set on the nearby bank listening to water rush over the rocks and the giggle of children. This is exactly what I needed, an hour away from the world in the peace and glory of God’s creation. Nothing calms my mind more than being out in nature.

It is extremely therapeutic for me. Sadly, all good things must come to an end so we head back to the truck.

I am so glad that I raised my kids to love nature, to respect it , to find joy and peace in the simpler things in life.
