April 2018

There is no glory in star or blossom till looked upon by a loving eye; There is no fragrance in April breezes till breathed with joy as they wander by.

All three of our kids joined us for a little nature walk and a scavenger hunt around the lake! Whoever wins gets a snack when we head back home. Anna wasn’t feeling much like hiking today but by the end of the trip, she got into it a bit more, and even won the prize snack! The came across an abandoned smoldering campfire and worked to get it back lit so we sat a few minutes around the campfire and just enjoyed a beautiful spring day by the lake.

The day grew a bit warmed so the younger two played around in the water a bit, being silly as they always do. We watched from shore while a gar chased fished in the nearby flooded wood line while the kids all made up stories of how they were going to go catch the gar (but none were allowed to try.) I am so very thankful for days I can get all my kids together for some family time out in nature!

We took the teens out fishing at the local state park everyone had a good time catching perch (except me I have no luck at fishing.) Adam almost caught something big but it flipped off right as he got it to shore! He was so stoked that he quit perch fishing and just tried to catch the big one again, but no luck.

We tried fishing again but the only thing that was caught was Anna’s big catch of lake grass. We brought our bikes so at least we enjoyed a nice refreshing ride around the park.

Since the fish wasn’t biting at the park the guys went to the creek and caught crawfish on a hook of all things!

Then they went over to a pond and caught a few perch. I love it when my guys spend some quality father & son time!

We have gone through our fair share of cheap computers over the years with us homeschooling three kiddos, so Adam and I decided to take their hard drive out and put them in a hard drive enclosure {ad} and use them as portable hard drives! We salvaged 8 of them while he learned a tad about computer repair!

Anna and her BFF hang out at least once a week, usually riding around by the lake, taking pictures and walking around in the water. I am thankful every day for my daughter’s bestie!

We wanted to get out and get some sunshine and exercise so we walked around some of the camping loops at the local lakeside park. The sad thing about the loops is they are no longer maintained and are roped off so people can’t use them to camp. I sure wish the county or whoever is responsible for the parks would get the funding needed to repair the campsites or maybe the state to take them over since state parks seem to stay maintained. We try to make the most of them anyway and use them for hiking trails. Stewart and Adam found some dewberries and had to pick them and eat a few. I look at my daughter and I get a bit sad knowing she is almost grown and soon it will be just us three and then us two. Such is life…

Anna and her bestie went to Old Aldridge Sawmill Historical sight because Jenna had never been there. There are so many “ghost stories” about the place that the girls like the “spookiness” about it and had to go check it out.

Then they played around in the water a bit.

I gave Anna the option to graduate early if she worked her booty off the next few months and got all the lessons done. She started plowing through them! So now we are planning a graduation party and taking graduation pictures. I have discovered, it is very difficult to get a teen girl to smile when she doesn’t like the graduation cap and gown.

I hate the fledglings leaving the nest, I really do! I know it must happen but I hate it all the same.

Peace, love, joy, and blessings,
