My Calling and Purpose
An awesome post from my son, Austin of the blog
“Canvassing Creation”
I remember as a young boy of four or five, standing up to my grandfather who had dumped a bucket of tadpoles onto the ground to kill them, believing they were mosquito larvae. I was sad for the tadpoles and very angry at him. I even said a few angry words to him, although my mother scolded me I felt I had to speak my mind.
“Tadpole Crossing”
That is my earliest memory of defending the creatures I love.

An Official Homeschool Graduate
Well, I have done what I have often felt was impossible. I have produced one official homeschool graduate!
Congrats to my Austin!!!
I know all moms, probably feel like they are going to have a panic attack when their kids graduate. I mean, it really is a big milestone and it is the doorway to adulthood with individual choices, lives, achievements, and yes, even failures. Sadly, we parents can no longer shelter them and protect them once they step out into the world. This is one of the hardest things I will ever have to do, learning to let go.
A Day at the Lake

June 7th of this year was “Free Fishing Day” in Texas. This means we could fish any Texas waters for one day only without a fishing license! Of course, we had to load up the rods, paddle boat, picnic basket, & the family and headed out to the lake with my sister and brother in law!!
It was an absolutely beautiful day on Lake Sam Rayburn!!
Honey Bee Rescue
My 13 year old daughter (being silly as always) decided to rub wisteria on herself to “smell pretty” (all natural perfume idea!) She ended up getting a honey bee on her shoulder during the process! In a panic she swatted it off, stunning the poor thing just enough to make it loopy and unable to fly!
My youngest son, being an animal/insect lover like the rest of us, grabbed a twig, got the bee to climb on it, and brought it to me, telling me the whole story of his sister’s antics. I had to call in the expert, my 18 year old “wasp whisperer!”
Waterfall Rock
I had been looking back over some of my older blogs lately and came across “Go Fly a Kite” from a few years back… This totally inspired me to want to get a kite and get out there in these nice March winds! Of course the day I plan to go the winds were high above the trees and I knew it would be hard to get the kites up high enough so I opted just to go on a hike. I had to get out of this house and out in a bit before I totally go mad!

Boykin Springs is our “go to” park for hiking when we don’t have all day to drive then hike. We generally hike the lake trail (which doesn’t even show up on the map) but I wanted a bit of a change so we headed down the Sawmill Hiking Trail. The trail used to go all the way to Bouton Lake but private land now blocks the way. I suppose that doesn’t matter today we wont be going that far.
